Insentric’s Source Tracker helps you see where your website visitors come from and what drives them to convert. This matters because you’ll have a complete view of each visitor’s journey—even if they come back days later from a different channel.
For example, someone might first find your site through a Google Search Ad, but later return directly and submit a form. Source Tracker ensures that the original ad still gets credit for the conversion.

-
Complete the three-step setup:

andmedium
) to Marketo fields. - Custom Referrals: Add rules for specific domains if needed.
- Copy the final script and paste it into your site’s header.
Step Details — configure, map, and launch
Below, you’ll find detailed instructions on how to submit the Source Tracker form.
1. Basic Information
- Main Domain: Enter your top-level website domain (like
example.com
). - Tracking Lookback Time: Choose how many months Insentric should keep tracking data. Some browsers may delete cookies sooner.
- Track Both Initial and Conversion Sources: Turn this on to capture both first visits and conversions.
- Track Program Member Custom Fields or Lead Fields: Choose where to store the tracking data in Marketo.
- Other Domains to Allow: Add extra domains (like microsites) to include in tracking.
- Reserved Strings (Advanced): Add any custom URL parameters to track (e.g.,
^src_.*
for custom UTM codes).
2. Field Mapping
Map Source Tracker values (like source
, medium
, campaign
, term
, and content
) to your program member custom fields in Marketo. This ensures accurate attribution in your reports.
3. Custom Web Referrals (optional)
You might want to manage traffic from specific websites in a unique way. For instance, when visitors come from Yelp, instead of showing this as ‘web referral - insentric.com’, you can assign a different source and medium, such as setting the source to ‘review’ and the medium to ‘insentric’. This can help you better categorize and track your traffic sources for more accurate reporting. Use this section to define those custom behaviors for specific domains.
When you’re done, click Submit. Insentric will create your Source Tracker file and give you the final script URL. Copy the script and paste it into your website’s <head>
section to start tracking.
