Understand Marketo API usage – why this matters

Set safe limits on how many API (Application Programming Interface) calls Insentric can make to your Marketo instance each day. This helps you avoid hitting contract limits and keeps your data syncing stable and uninterrupted.

Set REST API call limit – control daily request volume

This setting tells Insentric to pause syncing when your Marketo REST API usage gets close to your daily limit.

Quick steps

  1. Open Admin → Integration → Web Services in your Marketo instance.
  2. Look for the Daily Request Limit section.
  3. Click Requests in the Last 7 Days to open your usage history.

  1. Find the highest daily usage, round it up, then add 20%, and subtract that from your daily contract limit. Note down the final number — you will need to enter it in Insentric.

Example calculation

Example screenshot showing REST API usage summary in Marketo

  • Highest usage: 2,200
  • Rounded: 3,000
  • Add 20% buffer: 3,600
  • If your contract limit is 50,000 → 50,000 − 3,600 = 46,400

Set REST API call limit in Insentric

  1. Go to Settings → General Settings in Insentric.
  2. Find Maximum Daily Marketo REST API Calls.
  3. Enter the calculated value (for example, 46,400).
  4. Click Save.

Set BULK API file size limit – manage daily export size

This setting controls how much bulk data Insentric can export from Marketo before pausing to avoid hitting your contract limit.

Quick steps

  1. In Marketo, go to Admin → Integration → Web Services.
  2. Under Bulk Export API, click the usage chart to view history.

  1. Find the highest usage day (in MB), round it up, add 20%, subtract from your contract file size limit, and convert the remaining safe headroom to KB. Note down the final KB value — you will need it for Insentric.

Example calculation

Chart showing Bulk Export API usage over time for calculation example.

  • Highest usage: 378 MB
  • Rounded: 400 MB
  • Add 20% buffer: 480 MB
  • If your contract limit is 500 MB → 500 − 480 = 20 MB headroom
  • Converted: 20 MB × 1024 = 20,480 KB

Note: If your headroom is under 50 MB, consider syncing less often or contacting Marketo to increase your bulk export limit.

Set BULK API file size limit in Insentric

  1. Go to Settings → General Settings in Insentric.
  2. Find Maximum Daily Marketo BULK API Call's File Size (KB).
  3. Enter the safe limit in KB (for example, 20480).
  4. Click Save.
